At Country Day Montessori we have activities that raise awareness of our community and surroundings. Programs such as:

Adopt a Family. Every year, during the holiday season CDM adopts a different family. Parents sign up to bring in items as gifts for the members of the adopted family. The children then help to wrap the presents. In addition, CDM has a set of grandparents whom they adopt and the children help to provide and wrap gifts for them as well. Our school community also provides a holiday meal for one of the families we adopt.

CDM St. Valentines. Another way CDM children help our environment and local community, is by doing something a little different for Valentine's Day. Instead of passing out individual valentines, the children bring in the money that would have been spent and donate the money to the local Salvation Army Chapter. They also make one giant Valentine that is delivered to a nursing home in the community.
Through these activities our children develop an awareness of not only their community but of the needs of others. They build empathy and caring and a sense of accomplishment and value.
